March 16, 2009 - Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) continued to dominate the passenger car (PC) segment in February with 39% market share. Report released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) showed that Honda generated 1,242 unit sales out of the total PC unit sales of 3,162. Essential in sealing its leadership in the segment was its locally manufactured All New City, comprising 60% of Honda’s PC sales. Entering the local scene last January 2009, the 3rd generation City reinforced Honda’s claim in the PC segment with 744 unit sales in February. The introduction of the new City’s cutting-edge design and class-leading features that were once reserved for luxury vehicles simply changed the rules on how subcompacts should be like. Honda’s other sedan models likewise played significant role in protecting the PC crown. The Civic logged 4% growth with 303 unit sales, thereby capturing 33% share of the entire compact sedan class. Jazz and Accord models posted 159 and 36 unit sales, respectively. Honda remained optimistic as its Year-to-Date (YTD) PC sales grew by 31%. In terms of commercial vehicle (CV) sales, Honda’s performance was up by 4% with its CR-V model. Including CR-V sales of 228 units, it recorded a total of 1,470 units in February. Of this figure, Honda ranked second among the entire automotive industry, thereby attaining 16% share of the market. Read the full Press Release |

THE PHILIPPINE arm of Japanese automotive maker Toyota Motor Corp. will introduce its hybrid sedan to the local market within the year, an official yesterday said. TOYOTA’S hybrid car is expected by midyear. Alfred V. Ty, Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) Vice-Chairman, said upgrades to the Prius technology after test drives last year have made it adaptable to the country’s road conditions. At the same time, TMP officials maintained their previously cited flat targets for sales and production this year. "We have the go signal to bring [the Prius] in and we’re very happy about that," Mr. Ty told reporters at the sidelines of the launch last Monday night of the Lexus RX350. Read More |

In these days of economic adversity, many carmakers cut costs by scaling down features of their vehicle models or they hope to ride out the crisis by just keeping what they have. Such is not the case at Isuzu Philippines Corp. The diesel authority firmly believes that customers are won and kept by continuously improving their line of product offerings. It is with this belief that Isuzu has launched the 2009 Alterra midsize sport-utility vehicle. Already an excellent product—with thousands of satisfied owners since its launch in May 2005—the new Alterra is now even better, receiving more value-for-money features that are sure to impress in these times of moderation. For 2009, the Isuzu Alterra will be available in new body colors. There’s the limited monotone color, Starry Black. Other monotone colors are the Omega White Pearl and Sterling Silver. For two-tone color combinations, the Alterra will be offered in Starry Black, Chardonnay Gold, Nautilus Blue and Nebula Gray. The 2009 Alterra also boasts new-design 16-inch six-spoke alloy wheels as well as a new-design circular tailpipe finisher. Chrome is also a nice addition on the vehicle, as the door handles and power-folding side mirrors have now been chromed. Projector headlamps with foglamps in front, a reverse camera, and four-eye backing-up sensor at the rear complete the exterior package. Read More on the Isuzu Website

We felt even greater delight as the market embraced the City’s new styling and improved driving performance. Despite the implicated threats of economic slowdown, Honda still managed to register sales growth.
